Why We Love Abstract Art

As a professional artist, I am passionate about art and how I can use it to express myself. I also have a passion for nature so in my abstract art paintings I combine the two. I believe that abstract art is the art of the future as it conveys a message to the observer. In my experience, and I hear this from my customers all the time, people are drawn to the vibrant colors and shapes.

A piece of artwork needs to resonate with the observer for that person to want to have it displayed in their home. The painting needs to ‘ring a chord’ deep within, to hold that ‘special something’, that ‘je ne sais quoi’.

Abstract art can be a mystery, as people don’t know why they are drawn to a piece, it just IS right for them. Color and shape play an important part in the overall design of the abstract piece.

Some people say that abstract art is ‘easy art’ or they say ‘a child could do that !’, playing down the greatness of the abstract work. However, most abstract art is inspired work that is channelled through the artist in one way or another, so abstract art has a unique quality of being a very personal art making it unique in its concept.

Abstract artists work with their emotions and their sense of feeling for a particular subject, whether it be seascapes, landscapes, sunsets or flowers. The way in which I work is that I tune into nature and feel inspired by its colors and shapes, then I feel a sense of deep calm and peace and am then able to paint in a very focussed state, resulting in a unique piece of artwork.

That is the beauty of abstract art, you never find 2 pieces the same!! If anyone has a piece of abstract artwork in their home they will know that every time they look at that piece of art it changes their mood, a connection is made. And that is the crux of abstract art, it conveys a message.

It can be a great healing tool whereby it can calm the emotions, spark desire or creativity, provoke a happy memory, enable the observer to daydream or just the fact of the color vibration and the effect that can have on the observer.
Abstract art is great, it can enrich our lives and enhance our environments whether it be the office or the contemporary modern home.

Photography As Art and Reference for Artists

By Veny Arsenov Platinum Quality Author
Photography, especially modern digital photography has given everyone the ability to become a photographer. While not everyone has the artistic eye of what we define as the artistic photographer, the tools of the digital camera and the software to manipulate those images is readily available to all. This makes it possible for anyone to develop their own photographic style or even mimic the styles of their favorite photographer.

Additionally, digital photography also makes it possible for artists of all mediums to benefit from the technology. Sculptors, painters and even writers can now find images on the internet on nearly any subject or can take the photos for themselves to use as a reference for their work. This has changed the way that art is created for many artists. What might have taken days to capture in paint, with models having to stand there for hours at a time, can now be accomplished much more quickly using digital imagery as a reference.

A painter or a sculptor can now examine objects that they are using as their subject without the object ever actually being in their presence. With software for digital images, the artist can even zoom in on details that the human eye might not be able to decipher. Will this technology phase out the artist or the sculptor as it phased out using film?

In many ways, digital imagery and their manipulation and even creation from scratch hold many advantages over painting and drawing with traditional mediums. However, digital imagery lacks a certain real feeling, the depth of paint upon paint or chiseled stone. Digital imagery can never replace the need for painters or the want for real paintings of acrylic and oil. It can however, help those artists in the creation of those works.

Does impressive technology make someone an artist though? If there are cameras that take the perfect shot, is there still artistry in photography? Absolutely, because the art does not come from the technology, rather it comes from the drive of the person to create art. As technology changes and improves, makes faster and even automates some of the work of the artist, it will always be the artist making the technology work to produce what comes their imaginations.

This has always been true throughout the ages as technology and science has improved materials and procedures that artists employ in their creative process. While many art forms still rely on the basic materials such as stone or paint, the chisels and acrylic paints that we know now were not in existence previously. Photography as an art form and a tool for artists has changed so many aspects of art and will continue to do so for generations to come. Photography even makes displaying artwork easier, such as at online art galleries and websites.

How To Choose A Painting

How To Understand And Shop For Contemporary Paintings

By Kostov Konstantin
When it comes to looking at contemporary paintings with the intent of buying, many who do not understand abstract art might just think the most expensive paintings, and the artworks created by well known artists, are the best. Prints and originals can create a life of their own and help a room come alive. Take a look around. Modern art is everywhere, in offices, houses, and businesses. Many people do not give them a second glance, but when that special piece really strikes you, it can be a life changing experience.

--> Painting by Ligia Fiedler

The most famous abstract artists is most likely to be Jackson Pollack. This legendary American born drip painter of the mid forties created very large pieces of artwork by laying an un-stretched canvas on the floor or ground and dripping and splattering paint on it. He never used traditional paintbrushes; instead, he used sticks and basting syringes to apply gloss enamel paint to the surface. The artworks are intricate, like spiderwebs. One of his most famous is "One Number 31, 1950." which spans an entire wall in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Many aspiring artists have claimed that their lives have changed when they went to see the exhibits in person.

So, just how does one go about understanding an abstract painting? Your first clue is the title. Most abstract paintings have very simple, bland titles, if any at all. If the title of the painting is "Man," for example, you will most likely not be able to see a figure of a human being. You might, and it may not be portrayed in traditional colors. There might be a description next to the the painting if you are in a museum or on a website. This method of interpreting abstract paintings is preferred by many who do not feel safe just getting lost in the artwork.

When it comes down to it, though, there is no right or wrong answer when it comes to "understanding" abstract artwork. There is no art appreciator who can "read" a painting. But the brush strokes and colors will give the painting its effect. To you, the color red might give the modern art an angry feeling, while another viewer might think it resembles life. That's okay. The deep, black strokes might be calming to you, frightening to others. You have to use your imagination. Do not worry about whether or not you like the painting. Make friends with it. Listen to what it has to say.

Many contemporary painting shoppers would like to have a painting that they could display in an office, a bedroom, or business. Choose a contemporary painting that makes you feel happy. The aura of the room will be welcoming to visitors, even if they do not know how to really give the painting a close look. The colors can coordinate with the d├ęcor, however, it is important to remember that you may or may not want the painting to blend in. Some prefer their modern art to sit quietly on the sidelines, while others wish for it to be loud and noticeable.
